Former State Rep Nick Sauer to host movie night
After leaving jail, Nick Sauer is now the president of a children's baseball charity
In 2016, Nick Sauer was a well-spoken, youthful-looking, experienced, “independent Republican”.
With strong support from the Illinois Republican party, Nick would run for 51st district State rep unopposed.
As a State Rep Nick was probably most known for serving on the sexual harassment task force. Mostly due to irony. In the fall of 2018, Nick would be indicted on 12 felony counts of non-consensual dissemination of private sexual images
Katie Kelly, Nick’s former girlfriend, would tell police that Nick Sauer created an Instagram account where Nick would add her naked pictures to trick unsuspecting men into sexual discussions. Also known as “catfishing”.
Kelly stated, “He (Nick Sauer) came to my house & confessed to catfishing men with my photos for 2 years to at least 8 men”
After politico broke Kelly’s story, another girlfriend, Melissa Kreithen, would come forward with similar allegations.
On January 10th, 2019 Nick Sauer would be free after posting bond. Despite the indisputable evidence, the trial would last almost five years.
At the conclusion, Lake County Judge Fix ended up reducing Nick’s 12 felony counts to a misdemeanor and sentenced Nick to 90 days in jail with two years’ probation and 120 hours of community service. Nick would not have to register as a sex offender.
During the trial, Nick would lead a Children’s charity, “Sauer Home Runs,” to tax-exempt status. Sauer Home Runs claims its primary focus is foster children, but it also supports Military families and kids with special needs playing baseball.
Now out of jail, Nick Sauer’s political committee is still active and has over $87,000 cash on hand. The committee’s primary activity is paying for a storage unit, but this spring they donated $5,000 dollars to the “Saur Home Run Foundation”.
Last month, the Saur Home Run Foundation hosted a tee ball home run derby.
This Saturday they are showing “Field of Dreams”.
The charity is active on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, but there is no disclosure that their president pleaded guilty to catfishing. Therefore, we wanted to put the facts on record.
