Eileen Burke calls for a "Choice Protection Agency"
The new agency would openly target political opponents over misdemeanors
Cook County State’s Attorney Candidate Eileen Burke does not want to be thought of as “tough on crime”.
However, there is one crime that she does want the county to be tough on. And that is the crime of protesting abortion.
Eileen Burke is calling for the first-ever creation of a “Choice Protection Agency.”
The new county agency would be comprised of prosecutors and staff from every division of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. In direct conflict with the First Amendment, the Choice Protection Agency will specifically target misdemeanors carried out by “the anti-choice contingent”.
Limiting dissent and targeting political opponents are core tenets of authoritarianism. Although the role may be called “the State’s” Attorney, in theory, it is supposed to help the people.
Violent crime in Cook County continues to be a serious problem. The fact that Burke thinks arresting religious Republicans for picketing is a top campaign issue should concern fellow Cook County residents of what is to come.
